Reading Assignment 8

Pip's relationship with Miss Havisham and Estella is really shown in these chapters because Estella kind of ends everything that was between her and Pip by telling him she is going to marry Drummle. Miss Havisham feels bad for him showing that even though she decieved Pip into thinking she was his benefactor and didn't really help him with Estella, she does care about him and wants him to be happy. Pip then gets the note from wemmick telling him not to go home. This shows that even though Jaggers is kind of Pip's primary care giver, that there are alot of other people that care about Pip's well-being. Finally, Pip finds out that Magwitch is Estella's father. This further more ties the characters in the book together. This could be Dickens's way of showing that everyone was in one way tied to each other during the Industrial Revolution.

Reading Assignment 7

The convict came and found Pip in london. After a short conversation pip figures out that the convict is his beneficiary. The convict gave him all of this money just because pip brought him the file and wittles in the swamp many years ago. He wanted to make a gentleman out of pip because he could see that pip had good morale and wasnt going to get the opporntunity to excell in his current situation. Dickens could be using this as a resemblance to the industrial revolution. Not everybody had money and they had to help each other to get through it. Then, the person they helped came back and returned the favor. This could be what dickens is trying to say.

Reading Assignment 6

When Joe visits Pip he is out of his relm. Joe isn't one of those fancy-pants people who need expensive, fancy food and clothes. Joe is more of the bluecollar, burger and a baseball game type of guy instead of the lobster and an opera guy. He thinks he is "awful dull" because he does not fit in with Pip's new group of people or the fancy, uncomfortable clothes in which he looks a little strange. Before pip became upper-class Joe was able to be normal with Pip but now he feels awkward around him calling him "sir".
Pip waits for Estella to arrive in London. He is very anxious and cant wait to see her. Once she gets there she again warns and tells him numerous times not to become attached to her or love her because she cannot love anyone for she was never taught how to. For some reason Pip continues to drool over her even though she is roud to him and bosses him around.

Pip thinks this until he is invited to Wemmick's house for dinner. At home wemmick is a nice person and takes good care of his fathe who he calls Aged Parent. This shows that Wemmick is two faced but in a good way. He knows how to put everything at work behind him before he goes home and vice versa.
