Shaping Our Society

The Industrial Revolution in the late 18th and early 19th centuries influenced every region or the world in some way, playing a primary role in urbanization and the creation of our modern day cities as well as being responsible for the creation of machine tools and steam power. Canals began to appear in order to export factory made goods. The life expectancy of children increased dramatically in this time period even though child labor was a popular practice. Up until the Industrial Revolution, Great Britain was primarily ruled by a monarchy and few people voted. This would eventually change allowing more people to become involved in politics through voting and running for office. Summarizing, the Industrial Revoluiton shaped the society of today.
