Charles Dickens Bio
Charles Dickens was born on Feb. 7 1812 in Landport, Portsmouth in Hampshire. Dickens's family was not wealthy and his father, later joined by the rest of his family, went to Marshalsea debtor's prison. He started working at age 12 in Warren's Blacking Warehouse for 10 hours a day. Later, Dickens attended the Wellington House academy in North London.
